This 4-day primate safari is an all in one package which encompasses both tour and education experience in this small but nevertheless beautiful nation. Rwanda is famous for its mountain gorillas but also has a collection of other uniquely interesting animals and birds like chimpanzees, elephants, buffaloes and over 300 species of birds. This 4 day journey will leave yearning for more time as you will not exhaust this magnificent scenery.
Day 1: Arrival
Once in Rwanda, you will be chauffeured by a guide in a private vehicle to the volcanoes National park. On your way, you will have the opportunity to explore one of Africa’s smallest nations. You will go through Kigali which is the country’s capital city but also a gateway to the gorillas. Thriving markets and the ever clean green city is one among many indicators of the country’s prosperity which is a sober contrast to its recent history. Memorial sites and centres have been set aside in honour of the unfortunate victims that suffered the 1994 Rwanda genocide which serve as a learning and self-reflection for the wider communities both nationally and internationally. This however has not retarded Rwanda’s economic growth.
From there you will be taken to Nyungwe Forest Park which is home to over 300 species of birds and about 13 different primates. Depending on the accommodation you desire you will be welcomed, given what to eat and allowed to rest so that you enjoy the remaining days of your awesome tour.
Day 2: Sightseeing in Nyungwe forest and cultural tour
After breakfast, you will be led to Nyungwe forest to have a sight of the birds and animals in the wild. In here you will find many kinds of monkeys like the Blue monkeys, vervet monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, the Angolan black and white Colobus monkeys and endangered rare monkeys. Huge numbers of habituated primates are found in here, and a troop can have over 400 to 500 primates which a quite unique and fascinating observable fact.
After your tour, you will be taken back to your hotel where you will be served with a sizzling delicious meal of your preference and thereafter you can take a risk. In the evening you can go on a cultural walk where you get to interact with the locals of that place, listen to stories, see the popular Kinyarwanda dances and also listen to folk songs. Having enjoyed this amazing escapade, dinner will be the best thing you finish your day with.
Day 3: Nyungwe to Kinigi through Gisenyi Town This day will be filled with adventure where we shall be heading to Kingi park which harbors Rwanda’s famous mountain gorillas through Gisenyi town.
Gisenyi town is the ultimate place for one to relax and appreciate mother nature, thanks to its beaches which lie on Lake Kivu. The waterfront and the warm sandy beaches overlooking the lake will give you enough time to relax your mind in the fresh of air as you sip on cold tropical fresh drinks accompanied with delicious sea foods.
Later you will be taken to Kingi which is near the volcanoes National park where you will spend the night. It’s important that you sleep early enough as gorilla trekking is started early in the morning and its best when you have reserved enough energy for the trek.
Day 4: Gorilla trekking and Departure
One of the things you will have to do is to wake up early in preparation for today’s incredible journey with the gorillas.
After early morning breakfast, you will be taken to the park’s headquarters where you will be briefed about some key things you ought to look out for and pay attention to. The mountain gorilla family you will visit is given at the briefing as well as assigning you a mountain ranger or tour guide.
Please note that you will need to pack your own lunch as it could take a couple of hours before you are back and you don’t want to get hungry in the wild with no place to get a bite. Wear trekking boots that can brave the jungle and also carry a rain coat or umbrella with you in case it begins raining when you are still out there.
